Direct selling company Amway India said on Thursday its home delivery business increased 200% over the past six months, responding to which it is investing heavily on supply chain and logistics.

The company, which makes Nutrilite supplements and Artistry skin care, said it will invest Rs 30 crore for supply chain and automation to fuel its home delivery and logistics network.

Amway India chief executive Anshu Budhraja said: “We are witnessing a rapid shift in consumer behaviour, specially in retail. We expect this trend to continue.”

The Indian government announced a nationwide lockdown starting March-end to curb the spread of Covid-19. Starting June, lockdown curbs have been gradually lifted, but online sales across categories including packaged consumer goods and daily essentials, durables and apparel have surged with consumer shopping habits shifting away from malls and markets to online platforms.

Amway said it has witnessed a significant shift to online sales, from 33.6% in Feb 2020 to over 70% now. “We expect the trend to continue and foresee online orders to reach over five-six lakh per month by the end of this year,” the company said.

The India unit of the US$ 8.4 billion Michigan-headquartered Amway said it is reporting over 2.8 lakh home deliveries, which is roughly 70%-80% of its overall sales, compared to one lakh home deliveries before March this year.

Amway VP (global omni channel logistics) Sanjeev Suri said the company plans to introduce same-day delivery and online return services by the first quarter next year.

The company said it will add 40% additional third-party manpower across the country to support online demand.
