GURUGRAM: Amid protests from student bodies and opposition parties, over 10,000 students took the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam at 29 centres in the city on Sunday from 2pm to 5pm.
Contrary to apprehensions around conducting the examination when Covid-19 cases are on the rise across the country, around 92% candidates turned up to take the test.
Of the 11,150 candidates who had enrolled for the exam, around 10,212 students appeared for the test following all Covid-related norms and precautionary measures.
The pre-medical entrance exam that was postponed twice owing to the pandemic and faced opposition from the Congress and other student groups was conducted in a peaceful manner, students and invigilators said.
At most exam centers, students were allowed to enter by 11.30am to ensure that all norms such as thermal scanning, segregation of students in classes to ensure physical distancing, checking of the students to ensure they aren’t carrying chits or Bluetooth devices for cheating purposes, among others were followed. Several residents from rural districts such as Rewari took early morning trains to reach their centers in Gurugram and Delhi.
Meanwhile, district coordinator for NEET examination and principal of the Suncity School Rupa Chakravarty appreciated the efforts of National Testing Agency (NTA) in organising the exam during such testing times.
“The agency had chalked out a meticulous plan to ensure that all norms were followed,” she said.
Further, an exam analysis by several coaching institutes claimed that the paper was relatively easier this year. Questions were based on National Council of Educational Research and Training text books.
