HYDERABAD: Former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir of the Congress has charged chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao-led TRS government of neglecting the education sector and ignoring the problems being faced by teachers.
He was addressing a programme organized in connection with teachers' welfare by the National Solidarity Committee (NSC) here on Saturday. It was originally scheduled on September 5 but was postponed due to the demise of former President of India Pranab Mukherjee and the mourning that followed.
“KCR-led TRS came to power in 2014 on the promise of offering free KG to PG education.

The TRS government has ruined the education system from KG to PG levels. Over 4,000 primary schools were shut down while hundreds of junior and degrees colleges were closed. The universities were deprived of funds, many of which have full-time vice-chancellors. Is there any institution from Telangana among the top 100 universities in the country? The Chief Minister has not held a single meeting to review the issues pertaining to teachers,” Shabbir Ali said.
The condition of teachers associated with private schools was highly deplorable. Many of the teachers and lecturers got down to selling vegetables for livelihood as they either lost jobs or were not paid salaries by the management since March on the pretext of Covid-19, he said.
Stating that CM KCR has been making tall promises and cheating the people with false assurances, he said KCR's promise of 12% reservations to Muslims was impossible to be achieved.

“The Supreme Court has recently struck down the Maratha reservation as it had crossed the 50% ceiling. Telangana would need to cross the 50% ceiling if it wishes to increase quota for any community. It is constitutionally impossible to increase the Muslim quota to 12% from the present 4%,” Shabbir said.
Shabbir Ali also honoured the frontline warriors for their role in fighting against coronavirus spread.
