KANPUR: Kanpur Metro completed the casting of first pier of the 8.9-Km priority corridor being built from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur to Moti Jheel. The work ended on the last day of December.
In total, Kanpur Metro has to construct 295 piers for the viaduct and 198 piers for nine stations in the priority section.
Public relations department of UPMRC said the Kanpur Metro team has cast the first pier cap of priority corridor.
It stated that the work was completed on the eve of New Year.
It also stated that team of UP Metro Rail Corporation has worked day and night to achieve this feat in just three months. “It is a wonderful achievement by the team of Kanpur Metro,” UPMRC managing director, Kumar Keshav. said while lauding the team.
With this, the construction work of Kanpur Metro is gathering pace. The construction agency is working day and night between IIT-Kanpur and Kalyanpur Metro route. For this, barricades have already been put from IIT-Kanpur gate and traffic has been diverted.
Also, the work at the Government Polytechnic for construction of Metro yard is going on. This bears importance for the fact that the Kanpur Metro would be stationed here for maintenance work.

It is expected that the work of construction of Metro yard would finish before the construction of pillars and the raised platforms to enable it to run.
The Kanpur Metro is expected to start running by the end of year 2021 or in January 2022. In the first phase, it will run between IIT-K and Motijheel in Swaroop Nagar. On this route, Metro will run overhead. Nine stations would be made on this route.
However, after commissioning of Kanpur Metro between the two identified ends, the work would be carried out further. In the first route, Kanpur Metro is to run up to Naubasta from IIT-Kanpur.
But, between Motijheel and Naubasta, while some stations would be elevated, others would be underground.
