MALAPPURAM: Hadiya, the woman who courted controversy following her conversion to Islam and marriage to a Muslim man, has started her private practice as a homeopathic doctor at Othukungal, in Malappuram, Kerala . The clinic was inaugurated on Friday by the president of the Othukungal grama panchayat at a function attended by eminent personalities from different walks of life. Hadiya had successfully completed a course in homeopathic medicine in February 2019.

Hadiya's husband, Sheffin Jahan, posted his photo with Hadiya in the clinic on Facebook and commented in English, "Etch this up in golden letters. There they started a clinic." Meanwhile, when approached, Hadiya wasn't ready to comment.
Hadiya was at the centre of a major controversy following her conversion to Islam and marriage to a Muslim. Her father Ashokan approached the Kerala high court in 2016 alleging that she was radicalised and forcibly married to Jahan. Ashokan alleged that Hadiya was illegally detained against her wishes. Initially the court rejected the claims. But on May 24, 2017, the HC granted Ashokan custody of Hadiya and also annulled her marriage.
