NAGPUR: Hindi should be promoted so that people could understand it better and use it extensively in day-to-day life, said Suryaprakash Dixit, chairman of Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, on Monday.
He was delivering the keynote address on the opening day of the two-day national seminar on ‘Academic Hindi: Status and prospects’, organized by the Nagpur University department of Hindi at Ramanujan Hall of the department of mathematics, Amravati Road.

Vice-chancellor of Nagpur University SP Kane, pro vice-chancellor of Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded, Jogendra Singh Bisen and general manager of National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd, Mauda, Dilip Kumar were present.
Dixit said off late, people have been raising the demand to make Hindi simpler when it comes to academics. “But in my opinion, some complex words add value to the language as people get curious and refer to the dictionary which enriches their vocabulary of the subject. This will be a good practice to promote Hindi,” he said.
Kane said most of the people learn a language from the surroundings where they spend time. It then becomes an inseparable part of their life. It is a wonderful experience that people have gathered here in strength to discuss Hindi language and explore the ways to improve and popularize it, he added.
Bisen said correct use of language is of utmost importance for a teacher. If a teacher commits mistakes, then there is every possibility of students learning it the wrong way which stays with them for long unless, of course, corrected by the experts in the field, he added.

Time has come to give a serious thought to improving the knowledge of Hindi as its quality is deteriorating with people often mixing it up with other languages, especially when English is the buzzword these days. Those framing the policies for popularizing Hindi should keep this factor in mind, he said.
Dilip Kumar said, “The programme is connected with the national language of the country. Therefore, a concrete solution should be found out to make it people oriented.”
The seminar discussed topics like ‘Research in Hindi: Status and prospects’, ‘Research writing: New directions and challenges’, ‘Hindi teaching: Exploring new dimensions’ and ‘Employment opportunities in Hindi field’.
Earlier, the programme commenced with ‘Vidyapeeth geet’ which was followed by lighting of a traditional lamp.
