Puducherry: 41-year-old man gets 25 years' rigorous imprisonment for raping daughter

KARAIKAL: A 41-year-old man was sentenced to 25 years rigorous imprisonment by the Karaikal district-cum-sessions court for sexually assaulting his nine-year-old daughter in Puducherry.
Judge S Karthikeyan directed the government to provide a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the victim besides slapping a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.
Special public prosecutor J Senthilraghavan said the man sexually assaulted his daughter when she was alone at their home.The victim’s mother used to leave for work early in the morning and return home only after the girl left for school. Her father took advantage of it and sexually assaulted her. He also threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed it to anyone.
The issue came to light when the minor complained of severe pain in her private parts to her mother. Her mother also found stains of blood in the girl’s inner garments and in the washroom. When pressed, the minor narrated the ordeal she had suffered at the hands of her father. Her shocked mother lodged a complaint with police against her husband. The man was booked under Section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012, and Section 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC on October 8 last year. He was arrested and lodged in prison.
Police subjected the girl to medical examinations and the tests confirmed the charges of sexual assault. The Karaikal court concluded the trial in five months and convicted her father.
