VISAKHAPATNAM: The YSRCP Rajya Sabha member V Vijayasai Reddy urged the central government to set up a Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) bench and also IIIT in Vizag city.
Though the AP state has more than 50,000 central government employees, it has no bench of the CAT.
With over 60% government employees in AP residing in its executive capital Vizag and petitioners many of whom are retired have to travel to Hyderabad in Telangana due to the absence of a CAT bench in AP.
The inter-state travel is a cause of great inconvenience to many of the petitioners, he said.
He said Vizag is a ideal for a new CAT bench as it has many central government offices such as Steel plant, shipping and port trust, HIndustan Shipyard Limited, Dredging Corporation of India , Railways, Airport, Customs, Central Excise, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, LIC and others wherein thousands of employees work, he informed.
While speaking during the debate over the Triple IT Acts amendment bill, Vijayasai Reddy requested the government to set up a Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Vizag. He said the proposed executive capital Vizag is the better place to set up IIIT.
MP said that IIM set up in Vizag in 2015 is still working in the temporary campus in Andhra University and Central University in Anantapur did not get the permanent structures till the date. . The government should complete permanent structures and basic amenities to the IIM as early as possible. He said the government should provide all necessary equipment and facilities to the new educational institutions.
