GURGAON: The CBSE compartment exam for classes 10 and 12 began on Tuesday in the city amid the ongoing preparations for partial reopening of private schools. Examinations of as many as 14 subjects were conducted in five centres of the city.
Even as several students had been appealing to cancel the exams because of a surge in Covid-19 cases, the board on Tuesday went ahead with its schedule.

In Gurgaon, five centers which have been chosen to conduct the exams are DPS in Sector 45, Salwan Public School, DAV School, Manav Rachna School and Blue Bells School. The exams are scheduled to be conducted between September 22 and September 29.
According to the district nodal officer of CBSE examinations, Aditi Mishra, who is also the principal of DPS in Sector 45, on Tuesday around 70% of the expected students appeared for the exams that began from 10.30 am.
Students of Class 10 appeared for the social science exam. Similarly, for Class 12, exams for history, political science, economics, psychology, math, physics, biology, physical education, accountancy and other additional subjects were conducted.
On Wednesday, Class 10 students will appear for science and arts subjects while students of Class 12 will sit for Geography paper.
The schools that have been converted into examination centers for the next one week have claimed that they are duly following the guidelines of the board to conduct the exams and adequate preventive measures are being taken to make their premises safer for the students during pandemic.

“Our campus was fully prepared for the exams well in advance. The entire campus has been duly sanitised and posters and other awareness messages were also pasted across the campus as per the guidelines. At the gate, students went through thermal scanning and their hands and shoes were sanitised after which they were allowed to enter the campus in a staggered manner. In every class, only 12 students were seated to ensure social distancing norms. Teachers and students wore masks and gloves at all times,” said Rashmi Malik, principal, Salwan Public School.
The exams were already delayed in March due to Covid-induced lockdown. Thereafter, it faced stiff opposition from the students who wanted the board to delay the examination as calling students to the examination centers would make them vulnerable at a time when Covid cases are on the rise.
In Delhi, 41,903 Class X students and 9,071 Class XII students have registered for the compartment exams.
Class XII students who appeared for the exam on Tuesday claimed that the mathematics paper was tough. “First, we were scared to appear for the exam due to Covid-19. Now, the tough mathematics paper has added to our stress,” said a student .
