CHANDIGARH: Union defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched a mobile training application on Thursday that will assist in conducting countrywide online training of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets. It has been aimed to ensure that those enrolled with NCC can complete their training curriculum online and qualify the necessary examinations to obtain prestigious, NCC ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ certificates.

While giving details, Group Captain Sanjeev Gupta, director, NCC, said that in view of the restrictions imposed by Covid-19, training of NCC cadets has been affected adversely as it was mostly contact based training. Since schools/colleges are not likely to open in near future, a need was felt that training to NCC cadets should be imparted utilising the digital medium, he added. He further explained, with the help of the app, the cadet would complete 70% of their training curriculum.
“With the digital platform, the cadets would be able to prepare themselves for the NCC related examinations as well," Group Captain Gupta added. Regarding procedure to conduct NCC examinations for various certificates in view of current conditions, he said for this instructions received from the directorate would be followed.
On Thursday, as many as 40 cadets from NCC directorate, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh attended the video conference at group HQ Chandigarh, where the union defence minister launched the directorate general, NCC (DGNCC) mobile training app in New Delhi. Major General Beji Mathews, additional DG, directorate of Punjab, Haryana, HP and Chandigarh, officers and associated NCC officers were also present in the video conference.
During the interaction, one of the cadets from Chandigarh asked the defence minister regarding benefits of expansion of NCC in border areas. On this, the defence minister explained that this scheme will be implemented in partnership with the states and would help prepare the youth for challenges faced in these areas and will integrate them into the mainstream.
There are around 1.25 lakh enrolled with the directorate of Punjab, Haryana, HP and Chandigarh.

The app will assist in conducting countrywide online training of NCC cadets, and will be a step towards automation of NCC training and will go a long way in assisting the NCC cadets in easier access to training material in these testing times of pandemic.
