Mangaluru: St Agnes PU College celebrates grand Annual Day

Mangaluru, Dec 5: St Agnes PU College celebrated its Annual Day in grandeur on Wednesday, December 4 at college ground.

Addressing the gathering, Irene Lobo, district manager, Skill and Livelihood development said, "This is a wonderful platform for students to exhibit their talents. We need to encourage children to display their talents. Students need to apply knowledge and skills in nation building process. We need to remember what teachers have done for us. We need to give back to the society what we receive.”

Meanwhile alumnus of Agnes, Nisha Kulal who bagged three medals in Asian rope skipping championship held in Thailand and Wencita Dias who won Miss Teen World Super Model-Global, were felicitated.

Principal St Agnes PU College Sr Norine D’Souza welcomed the gathering, Namitha rendered the vote of thanks and Pragathi Alva compered the event.

The formal function was followed by cultural event. The 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was portrayed through a Hindi skit, Kannada dance and drama with the theme of Chandrayan, a tableaux celebrating 150 years of the foundation of the Apostolic Carmel focusing on foundress Venerable Mother Veronica was also presented.

The tableaux also commemorated the centenary of the college and recalled the life of its foundress Mother Aloysia, her pioneering spirit and her fight for the rights of women.

A variety of vibrant dances and melodious singing showcased the talent of the students.

The cultural event was compered by Susan Mendonca and Sama Asiya.

Dr Maria Roopa, joint secretary, St Agnes Institutions, Sr Janet Sequeira, vice principal and Ronald D’Souza, PTA vice president, were present.
