Mangaluru: Teacher's Day celebrations held at Lourdes Central School

Mangaluru, Sep 7: “To the world, you may be just a teacher, but to your students, you are a hero.”

Teachers’ Day was celebrated at Lourdes Central School on September 5. The celebration for students began at 8.00 am in the virtual classroom hosted by the respective class teachers and subject teachers. A special video on ‘Celebrating the Noble Profession’ was shown and students wished the teachers.

The staff had an inspirational celebration at Bejai Church Hall at 10.00 am hosted by the school management for all the teachers of Lourdes High School Bejai, St Francis Xavier Primary School, Lourdes Central School and teachers of Bejai parish along with Lourdes Central School staff.



The programme began with an ice breaking activity conducted by the principal, Fr Robert D’Souza. The dignitaries present on the occasion were Dr John Baptist Saldanha, manager, Dr Ronald Serrao, the chief guest, Fr Robert D’Souza, principal, Lourdes Central School, Belita Mascarenhas, vice principal, Lourdes Central School, Sr Lethisia, headmistress Lourdes High School, Lorna Veigas, headmistress, St Xavier Primary School, Ashok Pinto, vice president, Bejai Parish Pastoral Parishad, Preethi Gomes, secretary, Bejai Parish Pastoral Parishad, Fr Pramod Crasta , assistant priest of Bejai parish, Sr Superiors -Sr Sevrine and Sr Neena and deacon Joy Vishwas.

The prayer song was led by Roshan Cordeiro and the team. Fr Pramod Crasta, the assistant parish priest of Bejai Church and deacon Joy Vishwas conducted the prayer service and created a divine ambience. Fr Robert D’Souza, the principal of LCS welcomed the gathering. Harshitha Shetty enlightened the gathering on the significance of Teachers’ Day. The dignitaries paid tribute to the iconic leader Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. The ‘Wishing Song’ was sung by Ivan Mascarenhas and the team.

Significance of Nativity and Harvest Festival:

Nativity is one of the harvest festivals which is observed as Mother Mary’s Feast. Linette Pinto briefed the gathering about the birth of mother Mary and the relationship between harvest festivals of India.

Annual school magazine:

The Annual school magazine of Lourdes Central School Lourdite 2019-20 was released by Dr Ronald Serrao.

The chief guest and resource person Dr Ronald Serrao addressed the gathering and said that teaching is a noble profession and highlighted that a teacher must be a good human being to be a beacon of light to the students. They must be quick to appreciate and slow to condemn, have a dream and make students dream of a better society.

The manager of Lourdes Central School, Dr John Baptist Saldanha addressed the teachers on this special day and wished the teachers and thanked them for being committed, and asked them to take responsibility as students believe in teachers much more than parents. He asked them to be extraordinary who will build a nation of peace and harmony to inculcate peace through knowledge which is the motto.

Ivan Mascarenhas expressed gratitude on behalf of all the teachers. The programme was compered by Gretta Menezes.
