Industrial production in India picked up 4.9 per cent in April. That was a feel-good. But mood turned fragile as May inflation boiled to 4.87 per cent, from 4.58 per cent in April.

TCS, up 2.43 per cent, will consider a proposal to buy back shares at its board meeting to be held later this week.

An all-clear from the USFDA to Sun Pharmaceuticals' Halol plant in Gujarat drove the stock nearly 4 per cent up. However, the stock cooled off later and closed 0.95 per cent up on the BSE.

BSE sectoral indices portrayed a mixed picture.

Options data suggested that supports have gradually shifted higher and the immediate trading range for the next few sessions is likely to be between 10,750 and 10,950 levels.

US stocks closed little changed yesterday ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy decision.
