NEW DELHI: Shares of railway ticket master IRCTC soared 11 per cent after the company posted a spectacular rise in December quarter profit. YES Bank also joined it, jumping 6 per cent, as a number of foreign funds expressed interest in buying a stake.

However, other private banks were among the biggest losers. The 30-share Sensex dropped 0.26 per cent or 106 points to close at 41,460, while its NSE counterpart Nifty dipped 0.22 per cent or 27 points to settle at 12,175.

“Updates on coronavirus would continue to remain one of the key monitorables for the market participants. On the domestic front, the last leg of earnings announcements would induce stock-specific volatility. Further, given the higher-than-expected CPI data and lower IIP growth numbers disappointed the Street. WPI data scheduled to be released on Friday would also be actively tracked. We continue to maintain our cautious stance due to stretched valuations and subpar earnings season,” said Ajit Mishra, VP - Research, Religare Broking.
