NEW DELHI: Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has termed the Citizenship Amendment Act as a ploy to divert people’s attention from the economic slowdown and unemployment in the country. Speaking to journalists after meeting Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Friday, Baghel said that his Cabinet was likely to consider an anti-CAA resolution in the state assembly.
The chief minister was accompanied by his Cabinet members, party functionaries and newly elected mayors during his courtesy visit on Gandhi on completion of a year of the Congress government in Chhattisgarh. He presented her with a booklet highlighting initiatives and achievements of the state government in the first year. CWC member Rahul Gandhi was also present at the meeting.

With many Congress state governments deciding against cooperating with the enumeration exercise for creating a National Population Register, the AICC on Friday said it had reasons to apprehend the Centre may use NPR for “religion and language profiling.”

AICC spokesperson Sushmita Dev accused the Centre ofchanging the nature of NPR. At the official briefing on Friday, she said new questions were included in the proposed NPR exercise.
