    New Age diplomacy: Indian envoys & their counterparts brainstorm on digital platform

    NEW DELHI: A virtual series on ‘Dialogue on Partnership beyond Pandemic’ launched on June 17 is serving as an important platform to bring together Indian envoys in various parts of the world and their counterparts in India with a goal to promote wide-ranging partnerships.

    Organised by ‘Foundation for Public Awareness and Policy’, the main speakers of each dialogue were India's ambassadors/High Commissioner to India’s partners countries and their counterparts in India. Dr. Vijay Chauthaiwale, head of BJP’s foreign cell in India has been the moderator of this series.

    On June 17 the first online discussion began with the High Commissioners of India and Singapore where they agreed to strengthen the bilateral partnership further and discussed about the new prospects and avenues of future collaborations in context of COVID-19 pandemic. Expressing gratitude for the support and efforts undertaken by both the nations to tackle the ongoing pandemic underscored the cooperation in the field of pharmaceutical, medical and science and technology.

    In the second virtual consultation of the series, Ambassadors from India and South Korea took stock of the extensive cooperation in addressing the challenges of COVID-19, including supply of medicines, test kits and other equipment and evolving medical technology. They agreed to advance the various areas of bilateral cooperation and initiate consultations for collaborative efforts within the Atman Nirbhar Bharat framework.

    Both the Indian and German ambassadors agreed to continue their mutual consultations and emphasized the need to strengthen multilateral institutions including the WHO, and agreed to work closely together at various international fora, on health, climate change, and green energy.

    While discussing with Israel, the immediate potential areas in which India and Israel could expand their cooperation in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, which includes research and development efforts in the fields of vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics, cheap mask and test kits production etc. They also agreed that the post-COVID world would create further avenues for mutually beneficial partnerships in many areas like agricultural innovation, water management, space and defense cooperation and information technology.

    In the conversation between Indian and Russian ambassadors, they reviewed the conventional diplomatic best practices between the countries but at the same time highlighted the major areas of concerns relevant at the present context. They have briefly touched upon all relevant aspects like bolstering bilateral trade, defense cooperation, nuclear energy, space technology, health security, cultural relations etc. Eminent Scholars like, Arvind Gupta, Dr. Anirban Ganguly, Tatiana Shaumyan, Oiga Solodkova from India and Russia respectively had enriched the conversation as well.
