    CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday announced that gyms can function from August 10 onwards and that a separate SOP would be shared on the same soon.

    This comes as the State witnessed another day of over 5000 cases and the highest ever number of deaths with 112 people succumbing to the infection.

    The total number of Covid related fatalities in the state increased to 4461, according to the state media bulletin.

    As many as 5175 fresh cases were reported on Wednesday taking the total tally to 273460 in the State.

    State capital Chennai remained steady, with 1044 people testing positive for the infection.

    Chengalpet and Thiruvallur reported over 400 cases on Wednesday while Kancheepuram had 342 cases and Theni reported 278 cases.

    There was an increase in testing on Wednesday as 59,156 persons were tested as opposed to 52,955 on Tuesday.

    The number of recoveries were at 6031 on Wednesday, taking the total count of recoveries to 214815.
