Bengaluru: Amazon has introduced four new regional languages – Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam – on its platform, as it looks to capture more new-to-e-commerce customers from the southern states ahead of the festive period.

The move is in line with Amazon’s plan to capture the next 200-300 million online users, while also giving existing customers the ability to shop and transact online in native languages.

“We are going to add hundreds of millions of customers, both to the Internet and ecommerce as well, and we see this (launch of four new regional languages) as an extension of taking the convenience of selection to all these customers,” said Kishore Thota, director, customer experience and marketing at Amazon India.
