    Stock pick of the week: Why Petronet will benefit most from India’s shift to natural gas

    Synopsis

    The domestic production of LNG hasn’t been able to match the rising demand, resulting in increased imports. This is good news for Petronet. Strong balance sheet and reasonable valuations are the other factors that have made the company a favourite of analysts.

    Petronet was able to report another year of strong operational performance in 2019-20, despite the Covid-19 lockdown. For example, its sales volume and Ebitda (Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) grew by 10% and 21% respectively during the year. Improvement in Ebitda margin, to 11.3% from 8.6% in 2018-19, is a point worth mentioning here.After a weak start, things are improving now. For instance, the utilisation level
