AHMEDABAD: Officials of the Joint Enforcement Team (JET) of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation have sealed 40 eateries for violating social distancing and mask norms. The violations came to the notice of officials after a senior IAS officer saw people milling around these spots.
On Sunday, JET officials were deployed on SG Road. The teams sealed these eateries and issued hefty fines.
A senior officer said that at one eatery at least five groups, each with four members, were seen violating norms.
According to standard operating procedures, it is the responsibility of owners of establishments to ensure that visitors follow Covid norms.
However, it was noticed that even staff members were breaching rules. Officers said that when these youths were confronted, they said they had removed their masks only to eat. The officers said that SG highway and Sindhu Bhavan stretches have been thronged by youths and this increases the risk of infections.
Meanwhile, during the intensive scanning for Covid-19 at Kalupur railway station on Monday, 15 Rajdhani passengers from Delhi were found positive. Railway officials said that 1,580 passengers from Delhi, Gorakhpur, and Muzaffarpur were checked and 17 tested positive. In all, 371 passengers from Muzaffarpur were checked of whom two tested positive. And 395 passengers from Gorakhpur were tested and nobody was found positive.
Of the 17 passengers who tested positive, 10 were sent to the Covid care centre at Sabarmati railway station and seven were home quarantined.
