Gujarat records 1,078 cases, 28 deaths in 24 hours; tally at 52,563, toll at 2,257

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat recorded new highest daily cases at 1,078 in 24 hours ending 5pm on Thursday, taking the state tally to 52,563. The state also recorded deaths of 28 Covid-19 positive patients, taking the death toll to 2,257.
It was Gujarat’s 21st highest daily tally in July and third consecutive day of 1,000-plus cases.
With the update on Thursday, Ahmedabad district’s total tally crossed 25,000 with 25,173 cases.
The district has about 48% of the state's cumulative cases. Analysis of the cases reveal that the district doubled its tally in 51 days, increasing it by more than double from 21 days from 6,250 to 12,500. Ahmedabad city recorded the highest daily cases, overtaking Surat city after 20 days.
The new cases included 256 from Surat, 210 from Ahmedabad, 82 from Vadodara and 59 from Rajkot. The deaths included 14 from Surat, five from Ahmedabad, two each from Kutch, Patan and Vadodara and one each from Bhavnagar, Botad and Morbi.
A total of 718 patients got discharged in 24 hours, taking the total to 37,958. The discharges include 205 from Surat, 203 from Ahmedabad, 71 from Vadodara and 52 from Bhavnagar.
With the update, the state now has 12,348 active patients, which is 23.5% of total Covid-19 positive patients in Gujarat. Share of deceased and discharged patients is 4.3% and 72.2% respectively.
Gujarat carried out 15,417 tests in 24 hours to find new cases, taking the total to 5.92 lakh. The state on Thursday evening had 4.31 lakh persons under quarantine, out of which 4.3 lakh were under home quarantine.
