Two cheated of lakhs by online fraudsters in Ahmedabad

In a garb of updating KYC (know your customer) information, online fraudsters duped two Naranpura residents of lakhs using the same modus operandi. Two complaints have been filed with Naranpura police on Thursday.

AHMEDABAD: In a garb of updating KYC (know your customer) information, online fraudsters duped two Naranpura residents of lakhs using the same modus operandi. Two complaints have been filed with Naranpura police on Thursday.
In the first FIR with Naranpura police, Dharmesh Shah, 55, resident of the Naranpura area who works as development manager with LIC, said that he had lost Rs three lakh to online fraudsters on December 22.

Shah states in the FIR that he had received a call on December 22 from a man, introducing him as employee of Paytm, and asked him to update KYC (know your customer) details. The man told Shah to download an app called ‘quick support’ and add Rs 10 to it.
Shah paid Rs 10 in the new app wallet and after that his phone got hanged and Rs three lakh were deducted from his bank account, states the FIR. The man then approached cyber cell of the crime branch and filed an application to probe about the fraud. A month later, cyber cell sleuths called him up and informed that Rs one lakh out of the Rs three lakh were freezed.
Later, cyber cell officials told him to file a complaint with concerned police station. Shah approached Naranpura police and filed a complaint of cheating along with charges of Information Technology act.
In another FIR with the Naranpura police, Amit Shah, 41, a resident of Naranpura who runs a business of packaging materials, said that an unknown man called him and told him to update KYC details.
This unknown man had also asked Amit to download quick support application and add Rs 10 money in it. After that, Rs 1.09 lakh were debited from his bank account.
He had also first approached the cyber cell and finally his complaint was lodged at Naranpura police.
