ALLAHABAD:
Pratapgarh police on Tuesday arrested 5 persons, including
AIMIM leader
Israr Ahmad, for violating prohibitory orders by holding a protest against the
Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and trying to disturb communal harmony.
Israr Ahmad had contested the 2019 assembly bypoll from Pratapgarh Sadar seat as an AIMIM candidate and stood second.
Besides Ahmad, the other arrested persons were identified as
Raqib Khan of Dhakwa Birbal,
Saleem Ahmad of Vikram Chauraha,
Saqib Ahmad of Pank road and Sujat Ullah of Rajapur.
SP (Pratapgarh) Abhishek Singh told TOI, “In view of ongoing protests against CAA, Section 144 of CrPC has been clamped in Pratapgarh district. We received information in the afternoon that AIMIM leader Israr Ahmad and his supporters had reached district court premises to stage a protest against CAA. They were arrested on charges of violation of Section 144 of CrPC and for disturbing communal harmony in the area.”
