ALLAHABAD: With the arrest of three persons in Pratapgarh, police on Monday claimed to have busted an inter-state gang involved in
cattle smuggling for slaughter.
The accused, Mohammad Babu (47) of Meerut, Saleem (45) of
Muzaffarnagar and Zahir (37) of
Mathura, were arrested from near Ganga bridge in Hathigawa area of Pratapgarh.
Police seized a container, 25 oxen, two country-made pistols of .315 bore and three live cartridges from them.
Station officer, Hathigawa, Uday Tripathi said: “Acting on a tip-off that members of an interstate gang were taking a container full of oxen from
Udaipur (Rajasthan) to Bihar, a police team led by sub-inspector RK Yadav cordoned off the road and arrested the three men.
The accused confessed that they were involved in cattle smuggling for three years.
