ALLAHABAD: Bodies of two minor girls, aged 14 and 16 years, were recovered from Sai river in Pratapgarh on Tuesday.
The deceased girls were identified as Anjali (14) and Shivani (16), residents of Meera Bhawan, and were sisters.
After leaving the school, Anjali called up her aunt asking her to arrange a pick-up for them. Their family contacted police and a Anti-Romeo squad team was rushed to Belhadevi but could not locate them.
Around 5pm, the girls reached a mobile shop under Lalganj police station and asked the owner Suresh to call their father so that he could pick them up. Subhash requested him to ensure they remained there till he reaches. Suresh asked his mother to take care of the girls till their father arrives. However, the girls left following which Suresh called Subhash and informed him.
SP Pratapgarh Abhishek Singh said, “Their hands were tied with a cloth. The clothes of both girls were intact which prima facie rules out sexual assault. One of the deceased girls was wearing shoes and socks.” Police suspect it to be a case of drowning.
