ALLAHABAD: After SP president Akhilesh Yadav’s jibe at the Ganga Yatra, chief minister Yogi Adityanath hit back at the former chief minister, saying those who are oblivious of the country’s traditions and speak the language of India’s enemy cannot understand the value of Ganga Yatra.
Akhilesh Yadav, on Tuesday termed the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh as an “event management company” that has now launched the ‘Ganga Yatra’.

Addressing a public meeting at United College of Engineering, Naini, Yogi said, “Jinhe bharat ki sampada aur sanskriti ka gyan nahi aur jinhone desh ki kimat pe rajniti ki ho, jinhone garibon ko unki suvidhyaon se vanchit kiya ho, unn longo se umeed karna ki woh Ganga ke arth ko samajh paayenge bekar hai” (One cannot expect that those, who know nothing about Indian tradition and culture and who have thrived on compromising the country and depriving poor, can understand the importance of Ganga).
Lashing out at the opposition, the CM said, “Bharat ki parampara aur sanskriti ke baare mai kuch jaan payen, jin longo ki bhasha Bharat ke kissi dushmano jaisi hi hai, vey Ganga Yatra ke mahatva ke baare mai to nahi hi samajh paayenge”. (Those who speak the language of the country’s enemy cannot understand the importance of Ganga). Yogi also targeted Akhilesh on his comment on quality of water in the Ganga.
On Wednesday in Jaunpur, Akhilesh has said the BJP government is acting in the name of cleaning the Ganga and money is being misused. He had also said the condition of Ganga was deteriorating with each passing day. The CM said, “I have been to mela area and while seeing the volume and quality of water of Maa Ganga, I am happy Ganga is both aviral (continuous) and nirmal (pure)”. He also added that just four years back, Ganga water would have a foul smell, but now the quality has improved. “We are associating ourselves with this yatra as a mark of tribute to Maa Ganga and the service that our mother has rendered for us,” said Yogi.

Prior to his visit to Naini, Yogi went to the Magh Mela area and visited camps of saints, including Swami Nritya Gopal Das, Swami Vasudevanand, Swami Nishchalanand and Satua Baba.
Earlier, the Ganga Yatra reached the GIC Ground via Padri at Mirzapur where the public meeting was held in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. After the event, the Ganga Yatra team was divided into two. One team left for Prayagraj via Vindhyachal Meja, Manda while the other team proceeded to Sitamarhi from Gogaon via waterways.
The CM said that in Bundelkhand, work was being done to supply pure drinking water through ‘har ghar nal’ yojana. “The Rs 6000-crore project has been prepared for Mirzapur. A medical college is being constructed here and the shrine of Maa Vindhyavasini is also going to be developed here. Bundelkhand and Vindhya regions, neglected for decades, are now developing rapidly,” he said.
