Patiala: Road safety panel issues guidelines to prevent accidents

PATIALA: The Road Safety Advisory Committee, Patiala has issued guidelines for the drivers to prevent road accidents, especially during foggy days.
The committee has advised the drivers to drive at a slow speed.
The civic body has been asked to fix the defunct traffic signals and street lights. The meeting was held under assistant commissioner Patiala, Ismat Vijay Singh, and SDM Patiala, Charanjit Singh, DSP traffic AR Sharma, NGO Patiala Foundation and others.

Besides banning the outdated three-wheelers, the committee also advised the district authorities to install signboards to curb overspeeding, prevent stray cattle from roaming on roads, and guide the schools bus drivers to drive slow while ferrying children. The panel also advised the two-wheeler riders to wear helmets.
22,929 traffic fines imposed in 2019
The police in Patiala has imposed a total of 22,929 fines on the commuters for violating the traffic rules and collected an amount of Rs 1.71 crores as fine in 2019. A total of 741 fines were issued for using pressure horns, 614 for using black films on windows, 3,734 fines for jumping red light, 4,735 fines for not wearing helmets and 1,358 fines for driving without licence.
