BAREILLY: A week after a Lucknow-based cab driver was found shot dead near Shahjahanpur, police arrested a CRPF jawan for the murder in Shahjahanpur on Sunday.
The accused Adityapal is posted with 237 Battalion of CRPF in Pinjore, Haryana. He allegedly shot the driver with his licenced pistol after the latter refused to accept money through online transaction and asked the accused to pay in cash.
The accused had booked the cab in Lucknow through an app.
According to police, Vinay Shukla, who used to drive a cab in Lucknow, was found dead inside his sedan in Chaudera village in Shahjahanpur on February 2. Vinay's mobile phone was missing, but his wallet was untouched, which indicated that robbery was not the motive behind the murder. An FIR was registered at RC Mission police station by the victim's family.
The surveillance team found that CRPF jawan Adityapal had booked the cab and when his call detail records (CDRs) were checked, it was evident that Adityapal was with Vinay till Chaudera village. Adityapal was also found to be missing from his house which forced police to probe further.
Shahjahanpur SSP Shivasimpi Channappa said, "The accused was arrested following our investigation based on technical analysis. We have also recovered the murder weapon and the mobile phone of the victim. The accused is a resident of Choudera village and currently deployed in Haryana's Pinjore town. He had come back home on leave and had booked the cab from Lucknow to Barabanki and later from Barabanki to Shahjahanpur. The accused had promised to pay Rs 2,700 for dropping him to Shahjahanpur from Barabanki and had paid Rs 1,500 before the completion of the journey."

"Upon reaching Shahjahanpur, Adityapal offered to pay money online but Vinay asked for cash as he had spent most of his money on fuelling his car. Later, they both had an argument and Adityapal, in a fit of rage, took out his licenced pistol and shot Vinay dead," the SSP said.
"After the murder, Adityapal dumped the car and Vinay's body outside the village and took away his phone to save himself. He also fled from his village and didn't even join back his post in Haryana. We found him holed up in Shahjahanpur city. We are trying to check if someone else was involved in this murder," he added.
