BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Saturday announced that it completed repair work on a four-kilometre stretch between HSR Layout and Central Silk Board in just four days.
BBMP commissioner BH Anil Kumar took to Twitter to share pictures of the freshly tarred road. The post garnered praise and criticism alike, with many Bengalureans urging Kumar to emulate its own example across the city.
“Asphalting work on a 4km high-density corridor between HSR Layout-Central Silk Board has been completed in four days.
Kudos to team BBMP for overcoming heavy traffic challenges & completing work fast,” Kumar tweeted.
Twitterati were quick to post requests for repair of other bad roads. Dheeraj Shettigar, a resident posted: “Request you to please look into BTM layout lake road as the road condition is very bad (sic).” Another resident, Aniruddha, appreciated the Palike’s efforts and called for similar action on Bannerghatta Road.
Citizens like Ramesh Singh and Abhishek Kumar asked the civic body to put an end to dust pollution in other parts of the city.
“Please lay the road between Jayadeva flyover and Silk Board as well! The road is full of dust and in pathetic condition! By the time metro is functional most of us will be dead and gone due to dust pollution (sic)!” Singh tweeted. Abhishek Kumar said he is still waiting for BBMP workers to redo New Thippasandra and Indiranagar 80 Feet Road.
Mini Parameswaran, a data scientist, wanted to know why it was taking so long to get similar results on Outer Ring Road. “It takes on an average 30 days to do the same works in ORR. Why the can’t the same be emulated in ORR,” she asked.
Some people expressed concern over frequent digging of roads in the city and asked the commissioner to ensure the newly laid stretch stays as it is in the days to come. “Nice to know. But the real question is how long it will last before the poor quality shows through, or before other agencies come and dig it up...,” tweeted Sanjay Jain.
