BENGALURU: As chief minister BS Yediyurappa gears up to celebrate his 77th birthday on February 27, voices of dissent in the BJP state unit over his style of functioning are getting louder.
A section of the party is questioning his capabilities to run the government. An unsigned and anonymous letter, calling for a change in leadership citing his age and health, has gone viral on social media.
The letter, claimed to have been written by Yediyurappa’s wellwishers, heaps praise on him for having built the party from scratch in the state while expressing concern over his age.
“Age is taking a toll on his health. Despite best efforts, his body is not responding to the rigours of his role. He should be given an honourable exit from active politics and be made governor of a state,” the letter, which has been doing the rounds for the past two days, said.
The letter also refers to alleged interference of his family members in his administration and calls one of his sons as the ‘Super CM’.
Shettar: Meeting didn’t discuss BSY
An apartment near Shivananda Circle has become a power centre. The MLAs, ministers, officials and industrialists are being directed to meet the Super CM by Yediyurappa,” the letter alleged.
This comes against the backdrop of a meeting of some BJP MLAs and leaders on Monday night at former CM Jagadish Shettar’s house. They’re believed to have expressed unhappiness about Yediyurappa failing to induct senior leaders into his cabinet while rewarding almost all the turncoats with plum ministerial berths.
However, Shettar denied the meeting was called to discuss Yediyurappa. “I am a minister. Several legislators come to meet me every day. On Monday, 4-5 legislators had come for their work. I spoke to them and they left,” Shettar said.
According to sources, eight-time BJP MLA Umesh Katti (Hukkeri) and Shankar Patil Munenakoppa (Navalgund) were among those who met at Shettar’s residence on Monday.
