*IANSupdate at 11.20pm: As many as 94 doctors have been recruited by Bengaluru civil body to strengthen the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, an official said on Saturday.

*Update at 8.55pm: Karnataka govt decides to implement complete lockdown in Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts for 7 days starting 8pm on Tuesday, July 14. Detailed guidelines will be released on Monday.
*Update at 6.36pm: Bengaluru reports 23 Covid-19 deaths, 1,533 positive cases in the last 24 hours
*Update at 6.30pm: Karnataka reports 70 Covid-19 deaths, 2798 new cases in the last 24 hours
*PTI update at 5.50pm: Karnataka deputy chief minister C N Ashwath Narayan on Saturday clarified that the government has not taken any decision on imposing lockdown on Saturdays, amid spike in Covid-19 cases and said necessary action will be taken if the need arises, depending on the situation.
*While Bengaluru is facing a severe shortage of hospital beds due to the spike in Covid-19 cases, the government is yet to utilise passenger coaches — converted into isolation wards by South Western Railway — for treating the patients.

*IANS update at 12.30pm: Two more Karnataka Congress legislators tested Covid-19 positive, while the party's state unit office in the city has been shut after three employees were infected with the virus, an official said on Saturday.
*ANI update at 11.01am: Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa will be carrying out duties from home for a few days after some of the staff at his office 'Krishna' tested positive for Covid-19. "I am healthy, no one needs to worry," CM said in a press release.
*ANI update at 10.34am: Sanitisation work being carried out near Mysore Palace in Karnataka. The Palace has been closed after a relative of a Palace employee tested Covid-19 positive on July 9. It will re-open on Monday.

*ANI update at 9.18am: 1,13,07,002 samples tested for Covid-19 till 10th July, of these 2,82,511 samples were tested yesterday, says Indian Council of Medical Research
*In an extended work from home scenario, a growing proportion of the working population, primarily techies, are leaving the city and moving back to their hometowns, pushing up demand for storage houses, where household and office belongings are stocked securely for low rentals.
*The Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology here will set up the state’s first laboratory to study antibodies for SARSCoV2. It will test antibodies for different virus strains. The pilot begins with testing Bengaluru police personnel.
*With over 70 positive cases in random testing within a week in Kalaburagi district, the administration is mulling over a stagggered lockdown. From July 3 to July 9, 73 persons tested positive; the total number is 1901 with 477 active cases.
*The city’s commercial hub, Chickpet, which houses over 15,000 trading establishments, remains sealed since June 25 with civic authorities citing the Covid-19 spread. While traders demand they be allowed to open shops with restrictions, BBMP believes the congested area could be a ticking bomb.
Borrowed helpline keeps patients dialling in vain
*Critically ill Covid-19 patients seeking a change of hospital to avail ventilators and oxygen beds are left to fend for themselves most of the time. Reason: The helpline set up by the state government for the purpose is of little help.
*Most people dialling 1912 (the helpline), borrowed from Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom), are unable to get across, especially in late evenings when the utility is flooded with calls from consumers complaining about rain-related power cuts.
