BENGALURU: A social media secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) was on Monday arrested by the cybercrime police of the Central Crime Branch for allegedly posting defamatory posts on Union home minister Amit Shah.
Hours after Shah tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, Anand Prasad, 54, tweeted: "Praying he doesn't come out of this," in reply to another tweet that said #AmitShah "Get Well Soon Sir". At 5.48pm, Prasad again tweeted, "mar jaa saale tadipar".
Police said there were thousands of people tweeting soon after learning that Shah had tested positive.
A few miscreants posted derogatory and defamatory comments to those tweets. "We'll take stringent action against such mischief mongers," an officer said.
CCB officials traced Prasad to his KR Puram residence and handed him over to Cubbon Park police for further probe.
He was produced before the court on Monday evening, which remanded him in judicial custody for five days. Prasad will be sent to jail soon after his Covid-19 test.
