PATIALA: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sunam MLA Aman Arora on Saturday suggested that the four disgruntled Congress MLAs from Patiala district, along with 40 other legislators of the party, join hands with his party to form a government in Punjab under the leadership of Navjot Singh Sidhu, but his invitation only attracted criticism from Congress leaders.
Arora said reports appearing in newspapers for last many days suggested that at least four MLAs, including Hardial Singh Kamboj, Madan Lal Jalalpur, Nirmal Singh Shutrana and Rajinder Singh, from the home district of chief minister Amarinder Singh were not happy.

He said a news report had stated that at least 40 MLAs had gotten in touch with the four MLAs and seconded their views about the government. Arora said he had reached out to these MLAs to come and join hands with the AAP. “We are 19 (AAP MLAs) in the state assembly and Navjot Singh Sidhu has been sidetracked by the Congress for long. If we join forces, we can form a majority government in the state,” he said.
Suggesting the government changeover, Arora said who became the CM was “immaterial”. “The main issue is to revive the state’s economy and get it rid of mafia and corruption,” he said.
On Friday, the four MLAs from Patiala who have been raising issues related to a non-responsive bureaucracy and corruption,n had claimed that a large number of MLAs and some Congress MPs had gotten in touch with them and appreciated the stand taken by them while indicating that the situation being faced by them was similar to theirs.
However, not reacting kindly to the statement given by Arora, Congress chief whip Kamboj said the idea floated by AAP was farfetched. “It should be clear to opposition parties that we are not against the CM or the state government, but the derailed bureaucratic system which is hindering the state’s development while indulging in largescale corruption and high headedness,” he said.

Kamboj said Arora should worry about MLAs of his own party. “He should first look within and ascertain if his party actually has 19 legislators in Punjab. AAP is struggling with infighting and the statement given by Arora is nothing but a political gimmick. We are with chief minister Amarinder Singh and are only worried because the bureaucracy is working in ways which are adversely affecting the government’s image,” he said.
Madan Lal Jalalpur said the statement given by Arora proved that AAP had no base in Punjab and now it had stooped to the level of preying upon MLAs from other parties. “But they should be assured that their intentions will never become a reality,” he said.
Cabinet minister and Sangrur Congress MLA Vijay Inder Singla said described Arora’s statement as a fallout of frustration. “I will not comment. All Congress leaders stand united under the leadership of Capt Amarinder Singh,” he said.
