CHANDIGARH: Inclement weather conditions in the Union Territory forced hosts Chandigarh to split points with Pondicherry after their Col CK Nayudu trophy match at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium was washed out on Wednesday.
Both teams shared one point each. The Pondicherry side was bundled out for a paltry 156 on the opening day followed by the host's reply of 58 for two.
Chandigarh is currently placed third with a total of 16 points from two wins and as many draws out of four matches in the Plate group.
Unbeaten Odisha and Pondicherry are leading the chart at first and second positions respectively. The Chandigarh colts will next fly to Vizag for their next match against Mizoram from January 13.
Punjab to take on Kerala in Ranji Trophy
High on confidence after being unbeaten in the Ranji Trophy so far, Mandeep Singh’s Punjab on Wednesday departed for Trivandrum ahead of their Elite Group A contest against Kerala to be played from January 11 to 14.
Punjab have so far collected 18 points from their four matches and are heading the points table with Karnataka 16 points in the second place. Their adversaries Kerala have so far logged 3 points. Punjab secured seven points against Rajasthan, seven against Hyderabad three against Vidarbha and one against Delhi.

The Punjab team will be missing the services of their vice-captain and opener Shubman Gill who will be leading the India A side in New Zealand from January 17. Shubman was at the centre of the controversy during Punjab’s previous outing against Delhi at Mohali, when he was allegedly being given out in controversial fashion, leading to an argument between the right-hander and the umpire. Later, the opener was docked 100 per cent of his match fees for breaching a Level 2 code of conduct by the match referee P Ranganathan.
In Shubman’s absence, the team will be bolstered in the bowling department by the return of medium pacer Siddharth Kaul who has joined the team after having been declared fit from National Cricket Academy.
The Punjab team will move from Trivandrum to Valsad to play their next away match against Gujarat from January 19. Punjab will play their last two home games against Andhra Pradesh from February 4 and against Bengal from February 12 at the Dhruv Pandove Stadium in Patiala.
Punjab U-19 side to face Chhattisgarh
The Punjab Under-19 side will travel to Bhillai to take on hosts Chhattisgarh from January
11. Punjab, who are in Elite Group A and have played six matches and garnered 23 points, will be led by Nehal Wadhera. The team has departed for Bhillai on Wednesday afternoon.
The Punjab U-19 team played their previous match against Delhi at the Dhruv Pandove Stadium in Patiala and were robbed of an opportunity of securing an outright win after two days of play was completely lost due to rains, as a result of which the tie ended in a tame draw.
After having scored 489, Punjab had reduced Delhi to 116 for 4 before rain played spoilsport.
Punjab will be looking to score outright wins against Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh in their last two league matches to stay ahead in the race for a knockout berth.
The team will move to Ongle to take on Andhra from January 18 for their last league encounter.
