CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has registered FIRs against 11 sanitizer brands after their samples failed in quality test. Along with this, a notice has also been issued to cancel or suspend the license of the respective brands.
Confirming this, state health minister Anil Vij said that around 248 samples were collected by Food and Drug Administration (FDA), of which reports of 123 samples have been received.
Out of the received reports, 109 samples have passed the test while 14 samples failed. Among these, 9 brands were found sub-standard, while 5 brands were found with excessive quantity of methanol which acts as a toxin. He said that instructions have been given to recover the entire stock of failed sanitizer brands back from the market so that people do not have to suffer.
Vij said that samples of two sanitizer companies in Kaithal district have failed. Similarly, nine sanitizer samples of another company in Karnal district have failed due to the excessive amount of methanol present in them. Apart from these, two brands in Hisar district were of substandard quality.
The minister informed that at the initial stage of Corona outbreak, a complaint of selling fake sanitizers in the market was received, due to which the FDA was instructed to conduct raids across Haryana.
