Kayakalp awards: Team of experts inspects Chandigarh PGI
The PGI’s ranking slipped from the second to the third place last year.
CHANDIGARH: A team of experts that compiles the result for the 'Kayakalp' initiative of the government promoting public health based on sanitation, cleanliness and infection control, inspected the PGI. Sources inform that the inspection was the final round and two different team have already conducted such inspections.
The PGI’s rank slipped from the second to the third place last year.
AIIMS New Delhi was adjudged the cleanest central government hospital followed by JIPMER, Puducherry. The top award is of Rs 3 crore, Rs 1.5 crore to the runner up and Rs 50 lakh to the third rank winner under category A of central government hospitals. In 2018, PGI won the second slot in the category .
“There are 640 parameters which the inspection team follows. The team visited various departments and areas inside the hospital,” said Prof Anil Gupta, medical superintendent, PGI.
Kayakalp was launched in 2015 as a part of 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan' for public hospitals by the Union ministry of health and family welfare.
Besides sanitation, the other criteria were adequate illumination in the hospital, maintenance of stretchers, trolley and wheelchairs, redressal of patients’ grievance etc. “The team also visited the wards. The report has been compiled and the team shall submit to the ministry. We do not know when the results shall be declared,” said an official in the PGI.
Some of the parameters that decide the ranking includes, hospital upkeep, sanitation and hygiene, waste management, infection control, hospital support services (security services, laundry and linen management) and hygiene promotion (staff hygiene).
