PATIALA: The police have booked six identified and some unidentified persons under sections of Indian Penal Code for allegedly assaulting the cops who intervened into a fray of more than one dozen persons.
The police said that two cops were injured and hospitalized after the accused attacked them with rods while one of the accused attacked the cops with a sharp-edged weapon.
The accused have been identified as
Shamsher Singh,
Sunita and her husband
Subhash Chand, Subhash's son
Rakesh Kumar,
Harwinder Singh, Cheeku, all residents of
Nabha and some unidentified persons.
The case has been registered with the Kotwali Nabha police under sections 353 (assault on public servant to discharge duty), 186 (obstructing public servant from discharging duty), 332 (voluntary causing hurt a public servant), 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntary causing hurt public servant), 295-A (hurting religious sentiments), 148 (rioting and armed with deadly weapons) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of IPC.
The case is registered on the complaint of sub-inspector Raja Singh posted at Kotwali Nabha police station. In his complaint, Raja Singh said they received a call that a clash has taken place near a government school girls in Nabha over a land dispute following which the police team comprising SI Raja Singh and Head Constable
Inder Singh had reached the spot.
"We received a call and witnessed that around 15 persons were fighting with each other over a dispute on the land of Sukhwinder Singh. We intervened into the fray and asked both the parties to be calm and bring documents to the police station for verification.
Sukhwinder Singh and his supporters brought their documents and agreed to reach the police station. The accused Shamsher and others also got convinced to reach the police station but while on the way the accused landed in arguments and then clash with Sukhwinder and others. When we intervened, the accused attacked us too. One of the accused used a sword following which my fingers were severely injured. The accused also torn our uniform and tossed my turban", said, SI Raja Singh who along with Head Constable Inder Singh was hospitalized.
The police said that the accused managed to flee from the spot but the hunt to nab them was on. The police added that the accused will be nabbed soon.
