PATIALA: Jalandhar resident and a student of Apollo Public School here, Ujjwal Mehta, has topped the JEE (mains) in Punjab by scoring 99.99 percentile in the exams. The results were declared by the National Testing Agency (NTA) late on Friday. Two years back he had begun his preparation for the exams at a private institute here.
Ujjwal has made to the list of top 41 in the country.
Around 9.2 lakh candidates were registered while 8.9 lakh appeared for the exam at around 570 centres across the country.
“Frequent tests of full syllabus just ahead of the exams were like revisions. I had gone through these tests various times and learnt a lot from my mistakes committed in earlier tests. I used to watch movies whenever I felt stressed. Hard work and stress-free formula was the reason for my success. In a day, I had appeared through the tests for a full syllabus and this was surprising for the institute and my companions as well,” said Ujjwal, who is fond of watching movies in multiplexes and playing badminton.
“I hardly met my parents in two years. Only twice a year I used to meet them. My focus was on my studies and it was tough during the initial period. I had come to Patiala but later my dedication let me overcome the pain of missing my parents,” Ujjwal added. His elder brother is pursuing studies at AIIMS, Jodhpur, while his father is an employee with a private company and mother is housewife.
