A 24-year-old student of Panjab University was killed and his friend injured after their bike skidded and rammed into a streetlight pole near PGI Gate 2 early on Thursday.

CHANDIGARH: A 24-year-old student of Panjab University was killed and his friend injured after their bike skidded and rammed into a streetlight pole near PGI Gate 2 early on Thursday.
Satwinder Singh, a resident of Muktsar, was an MA-II Hindi student.
His friend Jasmal Singh, who was riding pillion, is under treatment at PGI.
“Satwinder, a hosteller, was going to PU from Nayagaon after celebrating the bank appointment of Jasmal, a resident of Faridkot, around 1am.
When they reached near PGI Gate 2, their bike slipped and hit a streetlight pole. Satwinder was drunk and not wearing a helmet,” said a cop.
Passersby took the two to PGI, where Satwinder succumbed during treatment. The body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
Police have registered a case and initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.
