CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh municipal corporation commissioner K K Yadav, who is also the chairman of the town vending committee (TVC), has asked the UT SSP to take action against unregistered vendors in the city.
In a meeting of the committee on Tuesday, the members asked the enforcement officials concerned to act tough against violators who are found vending from the sites of registered vendors in their absence and challan them according to the law.
The committee members asked the enforcement staff to nail down unauthorised vendors from the city markets and internal roads etc.
The chairman in agreement with all the members of the town vending committee conveyed to SSP, Chandigarh that the police and the traffic departments must take appropriate action against unregistered vendors and not harass those who are registered with the municipal corporation, Chandigarh. They also added to make sure the SHO, Manimajra, and SHO, Sector 39, should not harass the registered street vendors.
The committee considered the agenda item regarding waiving off Rs 50 for street vendors for filling up of loan applications through e-Sampark centres or bank mitra.
The committee accepted the amendments in street vendors (protection of livelihood and regulation of street vending), municipal corporation, Chandigarh bylaws, 2018 as per the approval of the administrator, Chandigarh administration, and notified by the MC.
In the last meeting, the committee had waived off vending fees and penalty till June for registered street vendors. The committee had also given the last opportunity for depositing pending dues by August 31along with penalties of Rs 3,000 and asked for legal examination for the same.
It was also decided that Rs 25 crore revenue generated by the town vending committee will be used for development and welfare of street vendors.
