Record 3,500 Covid-19 suspected cases are under quarantine in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: With a spike in Covid-19 cases over the past a few days, the civic body is making all-out efforts to prevent the spread of the disease by quarantining more and more suspected cases.
As part of the exercise, 17,595 people had been sent for quarantine in the city by Wednesday evening, out of which 14,130 have completed their mandatory period of quarantine.That is, over 3,465 are still under quarantine at various facilities and their homes. This is the largest number of people undergoing quarantine at a given point of time in the city so far, suggest civic body records.

Besides, the Chandigarh municipal corporation is also trying to trace 300 to 400 contacts of positive patients, who include their family contacts, neighbours, workplace contacts, social contacts, etc. Four civic body teams, consisting of six members each, have been deputed for the purpose.
A senior officer said earlier, most of the cases would come from colonies, but now cases are coming from all parts of the city. Couple of days back, two sectors of the southern part of the city were declared mini-containment zones by the Chandigarh administration.
Multiple teams of the health department of the UT administration and the civic body officials are working in tandem to prevent the spread of the deadly virus. The health department has also been regularly taking the samples of family members and close contacts of the Covid-19 patients.
