Chennai: 72-year-old man murders wife, hangs himself

A 72-year-old man murdered his wife and hanged himself to death on the terrace of his apartment in Perugnalathur, Chennai on Sunday. The man and his wife were identified as Jagannathan, a generator mechanic, and Sulochana, 62. They lived in a rented apartment at David Nagar. The couple were living alone after getting their three daughters married.

CHENNAI: A 72-year-old man murdered his wife and hanged himself to death on the terrace of his apartment in Perugnalathur, Chennai on Sunday. The man and his wife were identified as Jagannathan, a generator mechanic, and Sulochana, 62. They lived in a rented apartment at David Nagar. The couple were living alone after getting their three daughters married.
The incident came to light at 11 am, when one of the couple’s neighbours in the apartment went to the terrace.
The neighbour found Jagannathan hanging from a pipe attached to the water tank. When they tried to alert Sulochana, they found her dead with stab injuries.
On information, Peerkankaranai police rushed to the spot and retrieved their bodies. The dead bodies were sent to Chrompet Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police said that the couple often fought over trivial issues and the neighbours thought it was one such fight on Sunday as well.
Polie have registered a case and are questioning their daughters and neighbours in the case.
