CHENNAI: Forum Art Gallery Chennai will host an
exhibition of
artworks by glass sculptor
Sirir Sahana, who is known for his distinct style of sculpting and creating relief works with glass.
A professor in ceramics and glass at the Department of Design in Kala-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, Sisir combines sand and soda lime, along with colour, to produce a raw material that melts together to form molten glass.
He has received a scholarship from Visva-Bharati University, India Commonwealth Scholarship, nominated by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Department of Education, Government of India and sponsorship from Commonwealth Universities Commission, United Kingdom. He has also been awarded numerous fellowships and held in India, the US, the UK, Singapore, Thailand, Bangladesh and Egypt, with more than 30 solo exhibitions.
"Glass is a tough medium to work with. It is brittle, crystalline/non-crystalline, fragile, transparent/translucent, but nevertheless carries my everyday correspondences with nature," says Sisir.
The exhibition titled 'A Dialogue with Soil' will be on at Forum Art Gallery, 57, Padmanabha Nagar, 5th STreet, Adyar, from February 8 to March 7.
