*PTI update at 10.48pm: Tamil Nadu chief minister K Palaniswami on Friday said expeditious action was being taken to set up a plasma bank, the second in the country after Delhi at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital here.

*ANI update at 7.19pm: Covid-19: 64 deaths, 3,680 new cases in Tamil Nadu in last 24 hrs; total in the state reaches 1,30,261 including 1,829 deaths, reports ANI quoting National Health Mission, TN.
*PTI update at 7.00pm: A team, deputed by the Central government to assess the Covid-19 situation in Tamil Nadu, met chief minister K Palaniswami here on Friday and discussed the strategy to contain the spread of the virus.
*IANS update at 5.15pm: Tamil Nadu's minister for Co-operation Sellur K. Raju on Friday tested positive for coronavirus and has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
*ANI update at 1.20pm: Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami held a meeting with a Central government team, led by additional secretary Union health and family welfare ministry Arti Ahuja, here on Friday to discuss the Covid-19 situation in the state.

*Officials have stopped testing incoming domestic flight passengers at Coimbatore airport due to backlog of Covid-19 test samples at Coimbatore Medical College laboratory and ESI laboratory. Instead, officials advise all passengers landing at the Coimbatore International Airport to home quarantine themselves.
*The door-to-door surveys undertaken by field workers in Tamil Nadu's Madurai has been vital in the corporation’s battle against Covid-19. The workers on a consolidated pay have been doing a good job by conducting the surveys systematically, leading to more people getting screened and more cases being identified. Ever since the workers replaced the corporation staff in conducting the surveys, the screening process in the city has received a boost.
*With the number of Covid-19 cases on the rise in Tamil Nadu's Madurai, the number of people calling up the helpdesk set up by city corporation has also been increasing. From less than 50 calls a day 10 days back, officials say anywhere between 130 to 150 calls are received at the centre functioning round the clock.
*Update at 9.43am: Record single-day jump of 26,506 Covid-19 cases pushes India's tally to 7,93,802; death toll climbs to 21,604 with 475 new fatalities, reports PTI quoting Govt
*After the Red Flag Union made some noise, Greater Chennai Corporation has directed all zonal heads to compile details of all permanent and temporary workers who have been affected by Covid-19 till date.
*Treatment in hospitals for reasons other than Covid-19 is now expensive. Many such patients are prepared for additional bills including PPEs, Covid-19 test and disinfection costs, some now covered by health insurance, but very few realise they may have to spend at least 8,000 out of their pockets for attendants’ test and four-day stay.
Chennai cops to tweak signal timings to prevent pile-up of vehicles
*With the lockdown relaxed and more vehicles on roads, the Greater Chennai traffic police have decided to modify the timings of a few signals to ensure vehicles do not pile up at these places for long.
*Initially, the focus would be on main signals including Anna Salai, Velachery, Gemini flyover and Wall Tax Road junction among others.
