CHENNAI: DMK president M K Stalin asked the state government to present a fresh budget for Tamil Nadu. The estimates and assumptions on state's own revenue in the budget, presented on February 14, 2020, by deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam, for the financial year 2020-21 has gone haywire due to Covid-19 and the lockdown.
With the state already tottering with a huge debt of over Rs 4.5 lakh crore, the assumption of getting Rs 1.33 lakh crore as state's own revenue is unlikely to be realised, Stalin said in a statement.

"Out of the estimated state's total revenue of Rs 2.19 lakh crore, there has already been a question mark over the estimated Rs 1.33 lakh crore state's own revenue. It has not only become a mirage, but has totally disappeared due to financial mismanagement by the AIADMK government," Stalin said, while stressing the need for presenting a fresh budget.
While the state government has not sought any interim report from the committee headed by former RBI governor C Rangarajan, the state would lose 4-5 months of this fiscal year by the time the committee submits its recommendations, Stalin said.
