CHENNAI: The Anna Nagar police who took into their custody burglar 'Tiruvarur' Murugan in the Lalitha jewellery heist case in Trichy, again seized 1kg gold that he burgled from several places across Chennai.
They recovered gold jewellery he had pledged with pawn brokers in Tirchy and Madurai.
Police had launched a search for him in connection with a series of burglaries reported in Anna Nagar police district.
He had been arrested by the Bengaluru police for a similar crime there. The Trichy police had also launched a search for him as he along with a few others had looted the Lalithaa Jewellery showroom last year.
Two weeks ago, Anna Nagar police took him into a two-day custody and based on his confession, he was taken into custody again to be taken to Tirchy and Madurai where he had pledged the burgled jewels. As per his information, a police team went in searching for the gold jewellery. Murugan was remanded in judicial custody again on Tuesday.
Police said there are more than 150 cases pending against Murugan in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh.
The gang never used mobiles and was always equipped with walkie talkies. He would often sit in his car and pass on instructions to other gang members using a walkie talkie.
