Two people have been arrested in connection with the Sunday’s wee-hour petrol bomb attack on the house of Tughlaq magazine editor S Gurumurthy.

CHENNAI: Four Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam workers have been arrested in connection with the Sunday’s wee-hour petrol bomb attack bid on the house of Tughlaq magazine editor S Gurumurthy.
“We scanned CCTV footages and nabbed a couple of people,” said Chennai city commissioner of police A K Viswanathan on Monday.
Police arrested eight Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam workers including Jana of ICF and Sasi, Tamil and Babu of Royapettah in connection with the the attack.

Unidentified men attempted to hurl the Molotov cocktail at Gurumurthy’s Mylapore house, at around 3am on Sunday.
Chennai police had been conducting intense investigation into the incident, but did not reveal much to the media, as they did not want to create a scare during the Republic Day.
When cops scanned CCTV footages, they noticed a few men arriving on two-wheelers in the vicinity of Varadarajapuram in Mylapore where Gurumurthy’s house is located. One of them had a suspicious bag in his hand.
They then tried to hurl two bottles into the premises. Police on duty gave a chase, but the suspects got away.
Soon after the incident, commissioner Viswanathan and other senior police officers visited the house and conducted inquires. In 2013, a similar attack was reported at Gurumurthy’s house.
On January 14, it was during Thuglaq magazine’s annual function that actor Rajinikanth made a controversial comments about Periyar E V Ramasamy and a rally he had conducted in Salem in 1971.
