COIMBATORE: Anna University would remain a state subject even after bifurcation,
said Mangat Ram Sharma, principal secretary to the department of higher education, on Wednesday. He said the fear that the university would come under the Centre’s control after bifurcation was unfounded.
The state government had in December decided to bifurcate Anna University with one section getting the Institute of Eminence (IoE) status and the other providing affiliation to engineering colleges across the state.
Pointing out that there was an impression that the university would come under the Centre’s control by according it the IoE status, he said, “These are unfounded fears. It would always remain a state university and it will be bound by all state university laws.”
He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inaugural session of the 33rd Biennial Conference of
Home Science Association of India that was held at the
Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for
Women in the city.
He said a decision on bifurcating Anna University was likely to be arrived at after one or two more meetings by the committee of ministers formed for the purpose and discussions with academicians.
