Coimbatore: 16 trainees of PRS test positive for Covid-19

As many as 16 newly recruited women trainees of Police Recruitment School (PRS) in Coimbatore, tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday and they were admitted at the Covid care centre at Codissia.

COIMBATORE: As many as 16 newly recruited women trainees of Police Recruitment School (PRS) in Coimbatore, tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday and they were admitted at the Covid care centre at Codissia.
The health department has collected samples from 90 more women trainees omen and the result is likely to come on Monday. The officials at the PRS have stopped the training until further order.
Meanwhile, three cops from Podanur railway police tested positive for Covid-19.
As many as 183 women trainees were recruited through the Tamil Nadu Uniform Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB) for the post of grade-II police constables and they joined for training at the PRS in Coimbatore city on June 1, 2020. The women trainees were staying in more than 12 barracks located inside the PRS premises.
"They were given training since June 01. They were not allowed to visit anywhere. Following the training, they went to their barracks only. However, a woman trainee developed flu symptoms on August 3 and she was taking treatment at the Police hospital. Later, she was advised to give swab sample at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. The results showed that she was declared positive for Covid-19 on August 05. Her primary contacts were traced and swab samples were taken form 36 trainees and of them, 16 were tested positive for Covid-19,” said a police officer.
The health department officials had collected swab samples from 90 more trainees and the result is likely to be declared on Monday.
"We have advised all the trainees to go in quarantine at the PRS barracks,' the cop said.
"The corporation has fumigated the PRS campus and barracks on Sunday. We have stopped the training for the trainees," the officer said.
Meanwhile, three cops, including a sub-inspector of police from Podanur Government railway police (GRP) station, were also admitted at Coddisa Covid care centre.
