Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari demanded strict action against the guilty in the Kirari fire
NEW DELHI: BJP on Monday alleged that the AAP government blaming North Delhi Municipal Corporation for the Kirari fire was because of political ill-will. It also said since the locality was an unauthorised colony, such activities do not fall under the control of the civic body.
While Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari demanded strict action against the guilty, leader of Opposition in Delhi assembly Vijender Gupta asked the AAP government to call a special House session to discuss fire safety.
“Such incidents are saddening and political parties should desist from accusing each other,” Tiwari said.
Gupta alleged that AAP minister Satyendar Jain was blaming north corporation out of political ill-will. “Being an unauthorised colony, controlled activities in Kirari don’t come under the municipal purview. The minister is trying to divert attention from Delhi government’s responsibility. A high-level inquiry should be instituted to probe the fire,” he added.
Alleging that the Kejriwal government hadn’t learnt any lessons from serious fire incidents in the past, Gupta said, “I have always demanded a serious discussion in the House regarding fire safety so that the shortcomings of the fire department are overcome and a policy formulated. But the Kejriwal government has always run away from such discussions during its five-year tenure. Such incidents can be prevented by modernising fire services.”
Meanwhile, North West Delhi MP Hansraj Hans gave a memorandum to lieutenant governor Anil Baijal highlighting fire safety issues in the capital.
Delhi BJP media in-charge Pratyush Kanth asked, “What were the inspectors of industries and vigilance department doing? Who stopped the fire department from taking action against hundreds of warehouses and factories in such areas?”
